Eurail France - Bordeaux Train Stations Gare St Jean Info and Reviews

Bordeaux Gare St Jean

Bordeaux has a sizeable train station and is a popular stop when travelling on the way from Paris to Spain (Barcelona, Madrid) or vice versa.

Bordeaux is also served by the speedy TGV train which can take you to Paris in about three hours, travelling at speeds of near 300 km/h. The train station in Bordeaux has a few small cafes and vending machines through-out the station.

The information center can get pretty full, and it's recommended that if you have a question or need to make a reservation, get there early or you could be waiting in line for quite a while. If you're continuing on to Barcelona, be sure to make a reservation - the trains between Bordeaux and Barcelona fill up very fast. Your Eurail pass is of course valid on the train, but you still need to make a seat reservation.

There are storage lockers available in the train station if you're looking for somewhere to stash your backpack for awhile, and the station was full of young people when I was there making it very easy to meet people going to or from Spain and back up to Paris and beyond.

The station has a few washrooms (the usual pay per use) and pay phones available though as with most European phones, you'll need to have a phone card from the local telecom or have one of those universal cards you can get at some kiosks.
