Zurich Train Station
Zurich has a big train station, suiting to the largest city of Switzerland. The stylish main building dates back to 1870, including the huge covered space, where trains used to leave at that time. But the station premises keep expanding since then.
The tracks are distributed: tracks 1-2 are underground on the southern side, 3-18 are overground, 21-24 are again underground on the northern side, while tracks 51-54 are way out, beside track 3, a 5 minutes walk from the main hall.
Facilities are excellent: luggage trolleys, lockers, showers, clean (pay) toilets, tourist office, even a chapel. Several drinking places and restaurants (the "Brasserie Federal" serves Swiss Food and has over 100 different Swiss Beers). A huge number of shops in the underground part, including a supermarket and the famous "Sprüngli" selling the very best of Swiss Chocolates. Most of the shops are also open late and on Sundays.
Plan enough time to catch a train or changing to city trams: you first need to identify where your train or tram is going to depart, signs are numerous but it can take a couple of minutes to walk to the right place. Definitively a 5 star station.
